The Sausalito hospital is temporarily closed to the public due to our rebuild project
A public grand opening of the NEW state-of-the-art facilities, pens and pools and exhibits is scheduled for Spring 2009. Currently, we are implementing restricted visitor access and the closure of the front visitor gate to the general public. Restricting access is a safety measure so that heavy construction equipment can be moved in and construction activities can take place. The Center's staff and volunteers will continue their activities of rescuing and treating patients throughout the rebuild project. Best time to visit
The best time of year to visit our hospital depends on what you would like to see. Please note that the number of animals on site varies dramatically from season to season, month to month, and year to year. Winter is usually the quietest time at The Center, often with only 1-2 animals on site. Spring is pupping season and one of the busiest times of year for The Center. Between February and June we care for orphaned or abandoned northern elephant seal and Pacific harbor seal pups. During summer and fall we generally have more California sea lions on-site.

Number of animals on-site
To find out the number of animals on-site refer to our current patients page or call The Center's main line at 415.289.7325 (SEAL).

Please bear in mind that The Center is a hospital with the goal of releasing rehabilitated marine mammals back to the wild. Therefore, not all animals are visible from public viewing areas. Animals that are especially sensitive are placed outside of public viewing areas to limit the impact of human activity around the animals.

Information available during your visit
On weekends and holidays, volunteer docents are on hand to answer visitor questions. Informational signs outside and in the Gift Shop help to enhance your visit on days when there are no volunteer docents.

Wheelchair Access
The Marine Mammal Center is wheelchair accessible and parking for the disabled is offered on site.

Directions
Our hospital is located in the beautiful Marin Headlands, within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. For directions, please refer to our directions page.
